What Family Biographer is
Family Biographer is a service, with a companion app, that interviews a person about their life through spoken conversations, preserves the recordings, and produces a written biography from them — delivered as a printed hardcover book shipped to you, along with a digital copy. The app is the free companion for conducting interviews and sharing with family; the purchase is for the biography service and the physical book.
Price
Family Biographer costs $500, one time, purchased on our website. It includes the interviews, preservation of the recordings, the written biography, and a printed hardcover shipped to your family. Our refund policy is described on the refunds page and is part of these terms.
Fair use: the price includes up to 25 hours of recorded interview time and 200 photos per storyteller — comfortably more than a full-length biography needs. If your family genuinely needs more, write to us and we'll work something out.
Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password private.
- Gift codes sign the recipient's phone in without an account; anyone with the code can access that storyteller's sessions, so share it only with the person it's for.
- You must be at least 18 to purchase.
Consent to record
The service records the storyteller's voice. By using it — or giving it to someone — you confirm the storyteller knows they are being recorded and agrees to it. The app tells them as well.
Your stories are yours
The recordings, transcripts, and the finished biography belong to you and your family. We claim no ownership of them. You grant us only the limited right to store and process them in order to provide the service.
Acceptable use
Don't use the service to record people without their knowledge or consent, or for anything unlawful. We may close accounts that do.
Honest limits
The interviewer and the drafting are powered by AI. It is very good, but transcription and drafting can contain mistakes — you'll have the original recordings, and we'll correct the biography where it misheard. The service is provided "as is" to the maximum extent permitted by law, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid.
Ending service
You can stop any time and request your data or its deletion. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give you your recordings and completed work first.
Changes
If these terms change materially, we'll post the new version here and update the date above.
